Hot Work

The Swedish Fire Protection Association’s certification training for flammable Hot Work® carried out at temporary workplaces. This may include tasks that involve heating and a risk of fire, such as welding, cutting, soldering, and work using a heat gun or angle grinder.

The training provides the certificate required by insurance companies to perform work involving fire risk. For such tasks, a permit issuer must ensure that a special permit is issued and signed by the person performing the work, as well as by any fire watch responsible for monitoring it.

All parties involved (including the permit issuer, the operator, and the fire watch) must hold valid certificates, which must be verified before the work begins.

The course includes:

  • Safety regulations for flammable hot work at temporary workplaces
  • Fire safety knowledge
  • Risk assessment using the 3M method (method, material, environment)
  • Practical fire‑extinguishing exercise
  • Certification

For:

  • Anyone who works with flammable hot work that in any way generates heat.
  • Supervisors, contractors, or company leaders who are the clients ordering flammable hot work and therefore hold the formal fire‑safety responsibility, as well as those serving as fire watch or permit issuers.

What does the law state?

Flammable hot work refers to tasks performed using methods that can cause fire. ‘Methods’ means any type of tool that generates heat or produces sparks. To carry out such work, you must be knowledgeable and aware of the significant fire risks these tasks involve. Everyone involved shares responsibility for preventing a fire from occurring. If the work step to be performed is considered fire‑hazardous, competence and proper training are required.
